Rick Steves' Best of Eastern Europe - Days 13, 14 and 15

Church of the Assumption, Bled, Slovenia

Ljubljana

We started our day with a tour of a local trade school where the students were learning to be part of the hospitality industry. It was an interesting tour and we learned a lot about Slovenia's education system. They have a brewery and we had a tasting where the students were able to practice with us. It is always nice to know you are having a beer for the good of the students!

After the school tour we went on a walking tour of Ljubljana. It is a beautiful city and has an incredible market.

Bled

I have to point out that we did not see anything but blue skies and amazing weather all the way to Bled. We knew we were finally supposed to get some rain the last day of our tour. So Greg and I decided to take a walk around the lake and enjoy it that evening. I am pretty sure I have hundreds of pictures of the Church of the Assumption in the center of the lake. Every step of the walk brought a slightly different view with the castle on the hill or the mountains in the background. It was astoundingly beautiful.

The next morning we met for a pletna boat ride to the church. We learned about its history and attempted to ring the bell. After our morning tour of Lake Bled, Greg and I hiked up to the castle (stopping for more cream cake on the way). That evening we had a final dinner together before our tour ended in the morning.

What a spectacular tour. Thank you Rick Steves and George Farkas for making this everything we hoped for and more.
